MAGNA GRAECIA. SICILY, SELINOS.
Silver didrachm, circa 455-440 BC.
Obv: Herakles standing right, holding club overhead, preparing to strike the Cretan Bull standing right in background, which he holds by a horn; ΣEΛIИOTIOИ around. Rev: river god Hypsas standing left, holding branch and phiale from which he sacrifices over serpent-entwined altar to left; to right, selinon leaf above heron walking right; HYΨ-AΣ above.
Extremely Fine; a beautiful specimen with attractive golden iridescence throughout and a highly artistic Herakles scene.
